On 21–26 August, the Vilnius Lyceum team, i.e. winners of the Green Student Challenge in the senior class category, participated in the international youth climate activist camp Regeneration2030, the held in the Åland Islands, Finland. The event brought together 130 young people from the Nordic and Baltic countries who share a common goal: to find solutions for a greener and more sustainable future.

The camp programme was intensive and varied: the participants listened to inspiring presentations and took part in discussions on sustainability, inclusive society and the challenges of climate change. One of the most important experiences was the opportunity to present their ideas to regional politicians. The recommendations prepared during the Youth Forum were forwarded to the participants of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC), thus, giving young people a real opportunity to contribute to decision-making.

The topic of this year’s camp was “Safety beyond borders”, thus, the discussions focused not only on climate change, but also on geopolitical challenges and strengthening democracy, emphasising that a safer and more sustainable world could be created only through joint efforts. In addition to the official programme, the winning team members had the opportunity to explore the island by bicycle, interact with peers from different countries and make new friends. This experience not only broadened the young people’s horizons, but also encouraged them to think about how to successfully apply the principles of sustainability in their schools and everyday lives.

“The trip was a great way to end the summer, it left us with lots of impressions and, most importantly, the whole team gained new ideas, knowledge and had a good time. All of our experiences and memories are positive, and the only downside is that the trip went by very quickly,” said Ugnius Vilimas, a member of the winning team, sharing his impressions.
