“Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025”, together with the ISM University of Management and Economics, are launching “Green Vilnius” photo competition. The initiative is aimed at encouraging Vilnius residents to discover, appreciate and creatively communicate green spaces of the city and environmentally friendly initiatives. The competition is open to all – professional and amateur photographers.

“This competition is a great way to show how we can work together to create a city that we want to live in. Sustainable solutions are on the rise in Vilnius – from green roofs and nesting boxes to cycle paths and community gardens. We are delighted that citizens are actively joining the project and sharing the initiatives that are most inspiring for them,” Jurga Pociūtė-Mikūtienė, “Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025” Project Manager says.

Moment captured – an effective way to spread the message

Ieva Augutytė-Kvedaravičienė, Head of Sustainability and Associate Professor at ISM University of Management and Economics and the European Climate Pact Ambassador says that photography is not only a form of creativity, but also an effective tool to promote sustainability ideas.

“By sharing sustainable ideas through photography we not only draw attention, but also encourage thinking, reflecting and looking around. In addition, the language of photography is universal, easy to understand and helps draw attention faster. The impact we will achieve by simply writing about green initiatives will not be the same as the one achieved by illustrating them with photographs – in the latter case, we can expect a greater effect,” I. Augutytė-Kvedaravičienė says. According to her, there is no shortage of inspiring examples in the city: from the “City Lab” educational and community events that have produced many responsible Vilnius residents, to the public spaces that encourage more sustainable living.

“Thank You” stops, cycle paths, the trail around Vilnius encourage responsible consumption, movement and being in nature. All you need is the will, because Vilnius is a city of endless green spaces and opportunities, and I invite everyone to take a walk, look around and share personal observations with others,” Head of Sustainability and Associate Professor at ISM University of Management and Economics, and European Climate Pact Ambassador says.
