On 25 July, Vilnius residents and city visitors will be brought together in the green Vingis Park for a birthday fiesta—the free outdoor festival “As Young as Vilnius”, where the capital will celebrate its 702nd birthday. The festival will be packed with music, fellowship and activities for the whole family, and one of the festival’s exclusive spaces will be the “Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025” sustainability meadow. From 12 pm to 10 pm, green educational activities will take place here, inviting visitors to explore the city through interactive experiences.

The Sustainability Meadow will become an oasis of calm and inspiration in the hustle and bustle of the festival—a place to take a break from the fast pace of city life, to be surrounded by nature, to communicate with creators and to get new ideas. The artist Jolita Vaitkutė and the creative platform Commune DIY will be welcoming visitors to the workshop.

A wide range of partners will be presenting activities in the meadow. The municipal company JUDU will set up a drawing corner for children, a workshop for making reflectors, a bubble bike and an educational wooden game. Company Vilniaus Apšvietimas will demonstrate a lighting pole from which an electric car can be charged. Sustainability-focused educational activities will also be organised with company Vilniaus Šilumos Tinklai, where visitors will be able to try out a wheel of fortune and win great prizes by giving correct answers to questions about energy. Those, who will come to the event, will have the opportunity to learn more about the heating system, thermal fluid, biofuels and watch an experiment to produce hydrogen using a pipe cleaner.

Climate Neutral Vilnius, Vilnius City Parks, the Centre for Wooden Architecture of the Vilnius City Museum will also present what they do. Meanwhile, the Vilnius County Waste Management Centre (VAATC) will invite the participants to exchange their clothes in a special clothes rack with the DĖK’ui initiative.

Sustainability will also be the main subject on stage, where performances will be delivered from 2 pm to 3 pm. The Youth Stage will host an exclusive humorous Stand Up performance, where comedians Deividas Vizgirda, Tomaš Rynkevič, Kristoforas Vaidutis and Justinas Visickas will invite you to take a smiling look at Vilnius’ (im)perfection(s) and its green ambitions. It is a reminder that sustainability can also be a creative, curiosity-inducing part of everyday life.

“We want the festival to be a celebration of sustainability—a place where people can relax, take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, turn on their creativity and get inspired. We believe that sustainability can be not only about serious policy changes, but also about everyday, intriguing choices. That’s why we invite you to come together in a green space and discover new ways to live more harmoniously with nature,” Jurga Pociūtė-Mikūtienė, project manager of “Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025”, said.

To celebrate Vilnius’ 702nd birthday, the event is organised by Go Vilnius and Vilnius City Municipality. All activities are free of charge.
