Exhibition Creators of Sustainable Vilnius Starts Its Tour of the Capital, Showcasing Initiatives of the City’s Communities
The travelling exhibition Creators of Sustainable Vilnius, dedicated to “Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025”, has been launched. From July to the end of January 2026, Vilnius residents and city visitors are invited to discover the initiatives of local communities, NGOs, the Vilnius City Council, activists, and businesses that contribute to the creation of a sustainable city.
“A sustainable city is an environment where people, plants and animals coexist in harmony. Each of us can contribute to its creation, whether by sorting waste or by choosing a bicycle over a car. This exhibition is a great opportunity to see numerous beautiful initiatives taking place in Vilnius and to learn that so many people are contributing to making Vilnius vibrant, green and environmentally friendly,” Deputy Mayor Simona Bieliūnė said.
The local initiatives featured in the exhibition demonstrate how contemporary urban challenges, ranging from environmental protection to social inclusion, are being addressed. They are sensitive everyday actions that change the usual pace of the city life and promote the sense of community and responsibility. Many initiatives are regenerative: not only do they reduce negative impacts, but they also actively revitalise ecosystems, culture, social and economic environments.
The exhibition aims to inspire people to join existing initiatives or to make a change in their environment.
From Green Environment to Transparent Governance
The projects featured in the exhibition cover one or more areas of sustainability: environmental, social and sustainable management. The focus is on those that create positive change on several levels at the same time, for example, by improving green urban spaces while making them accessible to all citizens.
The exhibition has also been designed sustainably—the main structures have been borrowed from Grinda, the city’s urban management company, and will be returned at the end of the exhibition, while other elements are made from recycled materials or borrowed from the authors of the initiatives. This approach to sustainability is also reflected in the modular structure of the exhibition, which enables its adaptability to different spaces, avoiding one-off solutions. The objects will be labelled to indicate their circularity and recyclability options.
The exhibition Creators of Sustainable Vilnius will be on display until the end of January 2026 in various public spaces in Vilnius.
