Play and Learning Space at Vilnius Airport Invites Children to Explore the European Green Capital
A new educational play space for young travellers, which is designed to explore “Vilnius – the European Green Capital of 2025”, has opened at Vilnius Airport, outside the Schengen area. While families are waiting for their flight, children can have fun and learn more about the city’s nature, biodiversity and sustainability principles.
The new space is designed as an interactive educational zone, full of games, to stimulate curiosity and develop motor skills. Children will find a game called “Sorting Journey”, cognitive cubes about birds and animals, tasks about urban transport, trees and forest inhabitants in Vilnius. All this will help little ones to take their first steps towards a more sustainable and conscious lifestyle.
According to Jurga Pociūtė-Mikūtienė, project manager of the “Vilnius – European Green Capital 2025” project, this play space gives another opportunity to convey sustainability ideas in an attractive and easy-to-understand way.
“One of our main goals is to engage different groups of society in learning about sustainability through experience. This space is an invitation for children to explore the green side of Vilnius playfully, and for parents to start a conversation about the environment before the plane even takes off,” Ms Pociūtė-Mikūtienė said.
Tadas Vasiliauskas, Lithuanian Airports’ spokesperson, stressed that such initiatives contribute significantly to improving the experience of passengers, especially families with children.
“Families with children make up a significant proportion of our passengers, so initiatives such as the educational space for children are a priority for us. Not only do they help to keep little ones occupied, but they also contribute to improving passenger satisfaction rates,” Mr Vasiliauskas explained.
The space is located outside the Schengen area for a reason—it is from here that charter flights are operated to holiday destinations such as Turkey and Egypt, where families with children travel most often.
The educational space for children at Vilnius Airport will be open permanently, so young travellers are invited to explore the green side of Vilnius during every trip.
